MechBalls

Banner

Mechballs is a 2-4 player arena death match with the objective of the game being to reach the maximum amount of points within the set time limit, or to have the most points by the end of the game.

Overall the team worked pretty well together for the most part, and everybody worked closely together between the programmers, the artists, and the designers, and we ended up with a game that we are all quite happy with, and we’re proud with the work we achieved over the 3 months we worked on it.

I was the lead programmer of this project and focused mostly on Gameplay programming. The programming of the game that I worked on are:

  • The player
    • Input, Movement, Combat, Transformations, Feedback
  • Weapons
  • Scoring System
    • Point stealing and kill rewards, Base opening and player defending
  • Making the Centre piece modular
    • Including programming several of the Centre pieces hazards/rewards
  • The Death ship
  • Game Mode
  • Aesthetics
    • Recolouring everything to match each players chosen colour
    • Point canisters above bases filling up
    • Speakers around the arena syncing to music
    • Players glowing dependant on their speed

Also assisted the other programmers with the development of, optimisation of, and debugging of most sections of the game, including, but not limited to:
re-writing to Shotgun collision code, development of some of the hazard balls, spawning and picking up powerups, the menu’s, GUI.

I also worked on a lot of in editor work, such as, settings up all the materials for the objects, setting up animators, and placement of objects.

You can Download a playable version of the game here!
